SPRINGFIELD, Ill.--The Truman Volleyball team traveled to Springfield, Ill. Tuesday to take on Illinois Springfield in a match that was rescheduled from February 13. The Bulldogs won the match 3-0 (30-28, 25-18, 25-22) as Sam Yancy led the way with 11 kills, Rachel DeFries recorded 25 assists and Lindsay Woltering tallied 25 digs. It was also the fourth straight match the team hit over .200.

The first set went back forth in momentum, with each team stringing a few points together as the lead seesawed back and forth. Tied at four, Truman reeled off four straight to take an 8-4 lead, eventually UIS rallied back to tie the set at 12. Later on with Truman down 21-20, the Bulldogs reeled off three straight with two kills from Ellie Kaat and an ace from Morgan Smith. A Kaat kill gave Truman setpoint at 24-23, but UIS made it back to deuce. Truman had five setpoints that were fought off before Yancy got the final kill of the set to make it 30-28 and take the set.

Truman took the first three points of the second set and never trailed in the set. UIS got really close at 7-6, but Truman rebounded with five of six points to build a five point lead. Later on with the set at 14-11 Bulldogs, Ellie Kaat began a 7-0 run with a kill. An ace from Katy Motz followed, and after that four consecutive kills for the Bulldogs from Emma Berthold, Ainsley Heise, Motz and Yancy. From there Truman was comfortably ahead and would see out the set 25-18.

The third set seesawed back and forth as the teams would take a point or two and then the other would answer and tie it up. Late in the set a 4-0 run by Truman gave the Bulldogs a 19-16 lead. However four straight for the Prairie Stars evened the set back up. Morgan Smith evened the set at 20 with a kill, and after the set was temporarily even at 21 Truman took a two point lead at 23-21. After UIS picked up a point to pull back within one, a kill from DeFries gave Truman match point and Berthold tallied the final kill to give the Bulldogs the victory.

The Bulldogs will be back in action Saturday for their fourth tri-match: this one at #12 Southern Indiana. Truman will face Southwest Baptist at 2 p.m. and USI at 6 p.m.
