EAST PEORIA, Ill.--The Truman Volleyball team was back in the GLVC Tournament for the first time since 2018 as they qualified as the eighth seed. Their opponent was top seeded and nationally ranked second Lewis. The Flyers proved to be too much for the Bulldogs, taking the match 3-0 (25-11, 25-22, 25-22).
Lewis jumped out to an early lead in the first set and the Bulldogs simply could not catch up as the Flyers went up 1-0. But the second set was a different story.
Down 4-2 early on, Truman went on a 5-0 run, capped off with a kill from Emma Berthold to make it 7-4. Eventually the Flyers would even the set at ten, and from there the teams would seesaw back and forth giving and taking the lead. Lewis eventually took a three point lead at 22-19. A Lewis error and kill from Sam Yancy brought Truman back within one. But the Bulldogs would get no closer at Lewis went up 2-0.
Rachel DeFries opened the third set with an ace, but the 1-0 lead was the last one that the Bulldogs would have. Despite hanging tough in the third set, the Bulldogs were unable to take the lead back and fell in consecutive sets.
Morgan Smith led the team with ten kills, and tied with Lindsay Woltering for the team lead with 14 digs. DeFries and Katy Motz each had 12 assists to tie for the team lead.
Truman ends their shortened spring season at 10-10, and will return almost all of their roster next fall--including both Woltering and Ellie Kaat; who were named to the All-GLVC Second Team earlier this week.
