SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - The Illinois Springfield Prairie Stars scored a pair of runs in the sixth inning and carried the momentum into the second game to sweep a pair from the Truman Softball team on Saturday by scores of 3-2 and 9-0.
Kayla Quanstrum got Truman on the board first in the second with an RBI single that plated Maria McGonegle.
The Prairie Stars tied it in the fourth on a double but Truman retook the lead in the sixth when Lauren State knocked an RBI single to score Emily Eberwine.
The bottom of the sixth was the pivotal inning for the game. UIS had their first two hitters single and both moved up on a fly out to right field. An RBI ground out to short tied the game then Kayana Diederich, the starting pitcher got the clutch two-out hit to give UIS the 3-2 lead.
The Bulldogs were retired in order in the seventh.
That momentum continued for UIS in game two as Diederich belted a three-run homer to cap off a 5-run first inning and scored four more runs in the fourth to win the nightcap 9-0 over the Bulldogs.Â
Addison Bryant tossed a one-hitter to get the win for the Prairie Stars.
The Bulldogs will remain on the road with a road doubleheader at Quincy University on Sunday. Â
