KIRKSVILLE, Mo.--The Truman Baseball team wrapped up its series with Drury on Sunday afternoon, and after a big second inning by the Panthers the Bulldogs were not able to catch up as Drury would win the game 16-4. Dylan Fransden got the win to improve to 1-0 on the season for the Panthers while Truman starter Jordan Marlott dropped to 0-3 with the loss.
Drury picked up a run in the first inning, but four runs in the second put them ahead 5-0. In the bottom of the second Truman got on the board, starting with back to back walks by Jack Darwin and Holden Missey. Evan Kayser doubled down the left field line to bring Darwin in. Will Wirt followed with a single to bring Missey in and make it 5-2. An RBI groundout from Dakota Spicer brought Kayser in to score, making it a 5-3 game.
After a quiet third, Drury struck for one more in the top of the fourth. After two doubles by the Panthers made it 7-3 in the fifth, Trae Brownell came on in relief of Marlott. He worked out of a runners on first and second with one out jam to keep the Bulldogs in it at 7-3.
Will Fromm launched an opposite field homer to right in the bottom of the fifth to make it 7-4. From there Drury scored nine runs unanswered to take the game and the series.
Truman will be back on the road next weekend as they take on Rockhurst in Kansas City for a four game set, starting on Friday.
