Overtime Goal Sinks Bulldogs Against Drury

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – Tara Simon blasted a shot that found the top right corner to give the Drury Lady Panthers a 1-0 overtime win in the Great Lakes Valley Conference opener over the Truman Women's Soccer team on Sunday afternoon.
 
Simon got fed a pass by Elsa Gonzalez from about 25-yards out and beat a diving Beth Hopwood into the top corner for Drury's first victory over the Truman Bulldogs in 10 matches. 
 
Truman had a golden opportunity in the 74th minute when they were awarded a penalty. The reigning GLVC Defender of the Week, Kaitlyn Knetzke guessed right and made a diving stop on Hanna Hickey's attempt to preserve the scoreless game to that point. The Bulldogs had converted eight straight penalties dating back to the 2011 season.
 
Drury had the advantage in shots 20-7. Knetzke stopped all four Truman attempts on net for her third shutout of the season in four games. Hopwood stopped six of seven Drury shots on goal.
 
Truman falls to 1-2 overall and 0-1 in conference play with a home date with Maryville next Friday afternoon at 3:30 p.m.
