KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - It was a split in the 8th annual "Dog & Cat Fight" season-opening cross country dual between the Lindenwood Lions and Truman Bulldogs on Thursday night. The Lions took the men's title by a score of 26-33 while the Bulldog women edged the Lions 27-30.
Lindenwood swept the individual titles in both races with Louis Moreau running 12:45.47 on the four-kilometer men's course and Najwa Chouati taking the 4K women's course in 15:07.15.
Nathan Key and Thomas Cormier were right on the heels of Moreau for the majority of the race with Key crossing at 12:49.71 and Cormier at 12:54.95.
Ryan Harness was the third Bulldogs to finish in fifth position with a time of 13:19.31, however the next five Lions would push across before Truman's Nathan Stinson broke the string with an 11th place showing at 14:12.73. Stinson was followed by Sam Bradshaw, Joe Armour and Josh Thornborrow.
After the first two Lions cross the finish line, Truman had seven of the next nine runners to take the team title.
Cora Stimpson was third overall with a time of 15:46.98 and Lily Ende was fourth at 16:00.26. Addie Mathis grabbed the fifth position with a time of 16:02.16.
Molly Bies was seventh, Lexy Henrikson was eighth, Reese Howard took 10th, Kati Schoeneberg was 11th and Lydia Lehmbeck placed 13th.
Truman will next compete on September 18 at the Larry Young Invite, hosted by Columbia (Mo.) College and the Gans Creek XC Course.
