KIRKSVILLE, Mo.—Truman Volleyball played their first home match of the fall season Friday night, opening their home slate against Missouri S&T. The Miners won the match 3-0 (25-16, 25-22, 25-23). The third and final set was a tough set with momentum swinging back and forth but ultimately S&T prevailed and took the match.

The first set was tight early on, with the teams knotted at five. Later on the Miners pulled ahead by four at 15-11, but a service error from the Miners and kill from Ainsley Heise pulled Truman to within two at 15-13. But the Bulldogs could get no closer as the Miners would pull away in the set to go up 1-0 in the match.

Truman led 4-2 early in the second set with kills from Ellie Kaat and Allison Beaton. But the Bulldogs could not pull away as S&T hung around and eventually took the lead with a 5-0 run that started with Truman up 9-8. But Truman would not go down easy, as later a 3-0 run for the Bulldogs pulled them within one at 19-18. But Truman could not draw even the rest of the set as the Miners held on by three.

After an early ace from Morgan Smith, Truman led in the third set 3-2. But S&T answered and would take back the lead with a 4-0 run. Later, Truman drew within one at 15-14 after another ace from Smith, but could not close in on even terms. Truman made one more push at the end of the set down 22-17 to draw within two at 22-20; forcing a Miner timeout. Out of the timeout Truman drew even at 22 all, then 23 all. But the last two points from the Miners ended the match.

Truman will be back on their home floor tomorrow as they take on Drury at 3:00 pm.
