KIRKSVILLE, Mo.—The Truman Volleyball team closed out the weekend with a Saturday afternoon showdown with the Drury Panthers. Truman never found a rhythm in the game and fell 3-0 (25-21, 25-15, 25-21) in the match.
Hanna Berry racked up three kills in the first six Bulldog points, and the teams stayed neck and neck for the first third of the set. From an 8-8 tie, Drury went on a 4-1 run that put them in the lead; and the Bulldogs could not catch back up the rest of the set. Truman drew to within one multiple times at 12-11 and 14-13, but a 4-0 run extended Drury's lead and Truman never drew closer than three from that point on.
The second set looked much like the first early on, as the teams seesawed back and forth, drawing even at seven. From there a 7-1 run from the Panthers gave them a lead that Truman could not come back from.
Truman jumped out to a 4-2 lead in the third set, with Molly McGurn picking up an ace in the stretch. Drury picked up six of the next seven points to go up 10-6, but Truman answered with a 3-0 run that had a kill and ace from Emma Wollert. Drury then scored three straight, followed by Truman getting two straight and the seesaw continued for the rest of the set. Truman came within one at 20-19 following a 3-0 run. But Drury answered with three and Truman could not draw any closer than three as Drury won the set and the match.
Ellie Kaat and Berry tied for the team lead with nine kills, Morgan Smith led with 11 digs and Katy Motz led with 14 assists.
The Bulldogs go back on the road for their next three games as they take on Lindenwood on Tuesday in St. Charles, followed by Southern Indiana and McKendree next weekend.
