CEDARVILLE, Ohio - A strong start by the home Cedarville Yellow Jackets proved too much for Truman State to overcome in a 79-51 loss in the season opener on Friday evening. The Bulldogs will return to action on Saturday afternoon against Findlay (Ohio) at 2 p.m. (ET).
The Yellow Jackets got out to a 5-0 lead before Dylan Peeters put Truman on the board with a basket at the 16:25 mark of the half. A 10-0 run and a roughly five-minute scoring drought put Cedarville up 15-2 at the midway point.
Cedarville shot 54.8% in the first half, including 8-of-20 (40%) from outside in leading 44-17 at the halftime break.
Truman State found some footing in the second half managing to double their first half output with 34 points while Cedarville cooled off from three hitting just one of 11 attempts in the final 20 minutes. However, the Bulldogs could not put a dent into the big lead.
Elijah Hazekamp and Hunter Strait finished in double figures with Hazekamp scoring 14 while adding 12 rebounds for the double-double and Strait scoring 10.
Findlay knocked off Quincy 96-87 to open play on Friday evening.
