ALTON, Ill. –
Nathan Key,
Addie Mathis, Breanna Mathes and Kate Yates earned all-Great Lakes Valley Conference honors with Mathes named the league's "Freshman of the Year" following the GLVC Cross Country Championships on Saturday.
The men's raced kicked off the event and Key jumped two spots in the final 1000 meters to finish 15
th overall, with a time of 25:44. Evan AuBuchon was the next Bulldog in 41
st position and 26:33.
Ryan Harness (26:42) and Andrew Henton (26:45) were 46
th and 47
th respectively and Jacob Gutzman was the final Bulldog to score for the team in 68
th place and 27:26.
Other men's finishers were Josh Engle (27:56/85
th), Max Fuller (28:37/99
th), Brett Griesbaum (28:52/103
rd) and Sam Kallaos (29:09/107
th).
The men scored 188 points, good for seventh place and were one point behind Indianapolis for sixth. Illinois Springfield won the championship on the men's side with 35 points, edging Lewis by one.
Mathis and Mathes helped the Truman women to a fifth place team finish with 105 points. Both finished four seconds apart from each other with Mathis crossing in 23:20 and 17
th place while Mathes was at 23:24 and good for 19
th. Yates was two seconds back of her and finished in 20
th position.
Cora Stimpson led the Bulldog pack for most of the race and finished in 22
nd place at 23:28.
Lexy Henrikson scored the final points for Truman in 29
th position and a time of 23:44.
Kati Schoeneberg was 51
st (24:46),
Reese Howard was 59
th (25:10) and McKenna Legerwood was 85
th (27:14).
Mathes is the first Bulldog women's cross country runner to earn Freshman of the Year honors in the GLVC
The Bulldogs will compete next at the NCAA Midwest Regional on November 19 in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
