Bulldogs Run Past William Jewell in Second Half for Big Win

KIRKSVILLE, Mo.—Cade McKnight scored a season high 29 points as the Truman Men's Basketball team defeated William Jewell 82-62 Thursday night. In addition to a season high in points, McKnight matched his season high with nine rebounds. He was joined in double figures by Eric Northweather (14), Elijah Hazekamp (13) and Masen Miller (12). Hunter Strait led the team with five assists, while Northweather and Dylan Peeters both had two blocks and Miller and Strait had two steals.

WJC started out on the front foot with the first five points and with 16:25 left in the half, led 7-6. But from there, Truman had their first big run of the night. Miller started a 9-0 spurt which culminated with a layup from McKnight to put Truman up 15-7. The Cardinals tied the game back up at 15, but back to back threes from Hazekamp put the Bulldogs back ahead. With 4:25 to go in the half, Truman held a 27-23 lead and went on another 9-0 run to go up 13 points with 1:58 left in the half. Ultimately Truman led 39-30 going into intermission.

In the second half, Truman gained a double digit lead back at 11 points multiple times in the first few minutes, but Jewell would cut the Truman lead to 50-48 with 12:05 to go. Northweather responded with a three to go up five and then on the next Truman possession Sam Nissen slashed into the lane but passed up a layup for an open three from Miller that put Truman up eight. As the half went on, Truman expanded their lead to 20 with 5:42 to go via a layup from McKnight. Truman's largest lead was 23 with 4:27 to go, and then Keaton Mitchell punctuated the game with a dunk with 1:34 to go to seal the 20 point win.

Truman has a week off, and will be back in action next Thursday in Bolivar as they take on Southwest Baptist.
