NASHVILLE, Tenn.—The Truman Baseball team began one of its toughest series on Friday afternoon with a doubleheader against #9 Trevecca Nazarene. The Trojans made their first appearance in the College World Series last year and began this season 6-1. In the first of the two game set, Zachry Schneider pitched a gem for the Bulldogs going seven innings with one run allowed on four hits with four strikeouts. But it was not enough as Truman fell 3-2 in 11 innings. In game two TNU jumped out to a 6-0 lead before Will Fromm got the Bulldogs on the board with a solo homer in the seven inning contest for a 6-1 final.
Game One
Truman got up 2-0 with some small ball in the top of the first. Simon Murray led off with a single, then Luke Turner followed with a single. Murray advanced to third on a wild pitch, and then Turner stole second. Brennan Perkins came up to the plate and grounded out, but brought Murray in to score. Holden Missey came up next, and hit a sac fly to right that brought Turner in, after he moved to first base on the RBI groundout.
Trevecca got a solo homer in the third, the only run charged to Schneider. In the bottom the eighth, a throwing error with a man on second allowed Trevecca to bring their second run in. In the top of the 11th, Truman had two on with one out but was unable to bring a run in to score, and in the bottom of the frame Trevecca scored the winning run a wild pitch. Max Meusey (0-1) took the loss while Brooks Helton (2-0) picked up the win.
Game Two
Connor McKenna went six inning for the Bulldogs in game two, but ultimately took the loss to drop to 1-1 on the season. Truman's bats were silenced as they managed three hits in a seven inning game—all off of reliever Davis Jackson (2-0). Truman's lone run came on a solo shot from Will Fromm in the top of the seventh.
Truman will conclude their four game set with the Trojans tomorrow with a doubleheader starting at noon.
