ELKHART, Ind.--The Truman Swimming teams competed in the first day of the GLVC Championships Wednesday with multiple personal records set and many strong splits in relay races. At the end of the first day, the women are in sixth place with 184 points, just behind Missouri-St. Louis who has 186 points. The men currently sit in ninth place with 102 points.
Women:
Brooke Beahan placed 16th in the 1000 freestyle, while setting a personal best time at 10:49.17.
Emma Brabham finished with a B Cut in the 50 freestyle with a time of 23.82, which placed 13th in the event. The 200 Medley Relay team had a strong showing with
Holly Olson turning in a 24.85 fly split and
Sarah Nelson swimming the anchor leg in 23.76. Overall the team of Olson, Nelson,
Natalie Nguyen and
Emma Brabham finished seventh in the event with a finals time of 1:46.86. Coach
Jerod Simek also praised the B relay team in the same event of
Kylie Strobl,
Christina Jurotich,
Lexi Krogman and
Lexi Poe, who finished with a finals time of 1:48.69. In the 200 free relay Brabham anchored the A Relay and finished with a split under 23 seconds for the first time at 22.95, helping the group of her,
Emily Traube, Nelson and Poe finish in ninth place with a time of 1:35.15.
Holly Olson had her fastest career split in the anchor leg of the B Relay at 23.88 to guide her team of Krogman,
Kaitlyn McDaniel and Meg Herevoh to an 11th place finish at 1:37.98.
Men: Phil Tso and
Noah May set new personal records with times of 2:06.56 and 2:00.89, respectively, in the 200 IM.
Dan Fink set a personal record in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 10:07.86, while
Connor Neils placed 21st overall with a time of 9:38.40.
Jack McKenzie also set a new personal best in the 50 freestyle with a time of 21.53. In the 200 Medley Relay
Jack McKenzie turned in his fastest career split in the third leg at 22.48 and
Jacob Pocivasek set a new best in the anchor leg at 20.22 seconds; which helped the quartet (joined by
Grant Lair and
John Breen) finish ninth in the event with a time of 1:32.87. In the B Relay,
Alex Burkhardt and
Adam Vaske both turned in good times with 24.70 and 21.28 seconds, respectively. In the 200 freestyle relay, the team of Breen, McKenzie and
AJ Kohler all had splits under 21 seconds and Kohler's 20.53 in the anchor leg was his career best.
Following the action, Simek said, "We responded very well from this mornings swims. I think we got the jitters out and we able to settle in to what we know how to do and what we as coaches see everyday in practice. We are very close in the standings with only a few finals swims tonight so we are excited heading into the next few days where we will have some more swims in prelims to make finals! GO DOGS!"
The teams will be back in action tomorrow morning at 10 AM ET (9 CT) for day two of the four day event.
