Baseball Drops Sunday Doubleheader to Rockhurst

KANSAS CITY—The Truman Baseball team had a doubleheader Sunday at Rockhurst as part of their split four game set with two games on Truman's campus Tuesday. The Hawks took both games Sunday, 5-1 in game one and 6-3 in game two.

Game One

Michael Laudando (4-1) picked up the win for the Hawks while Zachry Schenider (2-2) took the loss for the Bulldogs. Both starters threw complete games in this seven inning contest. Rockhurst got on the board in the first with an RBI double, then got three more in the fourth and one in the sixth. Truman got on the board with a solo homer from Will Fromm in the seventh.

Game Two

Connor McKenna (1-3) pitched 5.2 innings in the loss while Ethan Kulpinski (3-1) picked up the win. Thomas Jones picked up his fifth save of the year for the Hawks.

Truman got the board first, Tal Dean walked and then advanced to second after Holden Missey was hit by pitch. Jack Owens flied out to centerfield which was deep enough to bring Dean in to score. In the top of the second, Jake Schneider singled to right and then Sam Smith walked with one out. But Truman was unable to bring either in. In the bottom of the second, Rockhurst evened it up with an RBI single.

In the top of the third, Truman had a chance to score again as Missey walked and Owens was hit by pitch. With two outs Missey was on third after a wild pitch but unable to score the go ahead run. McKenna had a 1-2-3 bottom of the third, but in the fourth the Hawks scored on an RBI single to go up 2-1. Two more in the bottom of the fifth made it 4-1 Rockhurst.

In the top of the sixth the Bulldogs got one back as Will Fromm singled up the middle and then moved to third on two wild pitches. Schneider drew a one out walk and Kevin Donohue pinch ran, then Donohue moved to second on a wild pitch. Sam Smith came up next and reached on an error, which brought Fromm in to score and make it 4-2.

Rockhurst made it a 6-2 game in the seventh, and Truman got their final run of the game in the top of the eighth as Jack Owens came in to score after leading off with a walk. Owens moved to second on a flyout, moved to third on a wild pitch, then with two outs scored on a fielding error by the first baseman in which Dylan Thompson reached.
 

The Bulldogs will host the Hawks starting at noon at Truman Baseball Park on Tuesday to finish off this four game set.
