KIRKSVILLE, Mo.—The Truman Baseball team has now won four games in a row after sweeping a doubleheader from the Wisconsin-Parkside Rangers at Truman Baseball Park. Zachry Schneider (3-2) picked up the win in game one throwing six shutout innings while Caden Bronkhorst (0-2) took the loss as Truman won 11-0. In game two, Connor McKenna (2-3) got the win as he threw a complete game while Nicholas Schouten (0-3) took the loss in a 3-2 win for the Bulldogs.
Game One
Truman bats got going early as the first seven runners reached base. Brennan Perkins drove in Simon Murray from second with a single to left, followed by a two run double to left from Jack Owens which scored Tal Dean from second and Perkins from first. Owens moved to third on a wild pitch and then scored on a pass ball to make it 4-0. Later Dylan Thompson came up with the bases loaded and hit a sac fly for the first out of the inning as he put Truman up 5-0. Truman got one more run in as Will Fromm came in from third base on an error on a pickoff attempt making it 6-0.
In the second Dean led off with a single through the left side and then stole second, before Owens hit a single to right to bring him in. In the bottom of the fourth Perkins launched a bomb over the fence in left to make it 8-0. In the fifth, Holden Missey led off with a double down the left field line, then with two outs Thompson drove Missey in to make it 9-0.
In the bottom of the sixth Truman capped their scoring with two more runs. Dean, Perkins and Owens all reached to open the inning and Fromm singled through the left side to bring Dean in. Luke Turner followed with a single to center field which brought Perkins in.
In the top of the seventh, JJ Swafford relieved Schneider; who went six innings (with three 1-2-3 innings) and allowed just four hits. Swafford allowed a two out double but got the next out to secure the win.
Game Two
McKenna went 1-2-3 in each of the first two innings. Truman got on the board in the bottom of the first as Murray led off with a bunt single, then advanced to third after a throwing error that sent the ball past first base into foul territory. Dean followed with a single to second that brought Murray in. In the bottom of the second, Jake Schneider led off with a double to left center but after two more outs were recorded Schneider was picked off to end the inning.
Noah Tyrrell led off the top of the third with a solo shot to tie the game at one. Then in the top of the fourth a leadoff double from Ryan Brouch and a single through the left side by Dan Esposito put UWP u 2-1. With two outs and runners on first and second, McKenna got out of the inning with a crucial strike out.
McKenna got out of another jam in the top of the sixth with runners on the corners and one out. A groundout to third kept the runner at third while the runner moved to second. With two outs and two runners in scoring position, McKenna got another strikeout to end the inning.
Dean led off the bottom of the sixth with a single to right center and then moved to third on error by the catcher and the subsequent throw. Owens then brought him in on an RBI groundout to tie the game.
McKenna had a 1-2-3 top of the seventh, giving Truman a chance to win the bottom of the frame. Fromm singled to third to put the winning run on, then Kevin Donohue pinch ran for him. Schneider reached as a hit batsman, pulled for Dakota Spicer to pinch run. Jack Darwin came in to pinch hit for Luke Roussel and moved both runners on a sac bunt. Thompson came to pinch hit for Justin Maloney and during his at bat Donohue scored the winning run on a wild pitch.
Truman will continue their series with a doubleheader against the UWP Rangers tomorrow at 11 AM at Truman Baseball Park.
