ST. LOUIS—The Truman Baseball team opened a four game set at Maryville Friday with a 15-3 victory over the Saints. The Bulldogs collected 18 hits, the most since April 21, 2018 when they collected 18 hits in a win over Missouri-St. Louis. Trailing 2-1 as they entered the top of the sixth, the Bulldogs went off for ten runs total in the sixth and seventh.
Zachry Schneider pitched another gem with seven innings and three runs allowed to move to 2-1 on the season while Noah Arras dropped to 1-1 with the loss.
Maryville got on the board in the first, but Schneider got out of a jam with runners on the corners to keep the damage minimal. The Bulldogs threatened in the fourth, but were unable to bring a run across. However, the Bulldog offense was just heating up.
In the top of the fifth,
Simon Murray walked and stole second with one out before
Brennan Perkins singled to right center with two outs to bring Murray in and even the game at 1-1. Maryville scored in the bottom of the fifth, but Truman struck for five in the top of the sixth.
Will Fromm led off with a single and
Kevin Donohue walked. After a pitching change,
Dylan Thompson singled up the middle to bring Fromm in and even the game at two.
Tal Dean would bring Thompson in later in the inning to give Truman the lead at 3-2.
Justin Maloney had reached on a fielder's choice and came in to score on a pass ball to make it 4-2. An RBI groundout by
Luke Turner brought Dean in to make it 5-2. Perkins reached on an error to bring in Murray to make it 6-2.
In the seventh inning, Fromm led off with a single just like in the sixth. Donohue and Thompson singled to load the bases. Maloney had bases loaded for the second time in the game and he brought Fromm in to make it 7-2. Dean brought Donohue with a groundout, making it 8-2. Murray followed with a single to bring Thompson in making it 9-2. Turner followed with a fielder's choice to bring Maloney in making it 10-2. Turner reached second on a throwing error, and then was brought in by Perkins on a single to left making it 11-2.
Maryville got a run back in the bottom of the seventh, and Schneider got out of a bases loaded jam to keep the Saints from doing any more damage. In the top of the ninth with the bases loaded
Holden Missey got a two run double to bring in Turner and Dean to make it 13-3, followed by a Fromm single to bring in
Dakota Spicer (who pinch ran for Perkins) and then Donohue singled to bring Missey in to close out the Bulldogs scoring.
Truman will be back in action tomorrow with a double header at noon.
