TOPEKA, Kan. - The Washburn Ichabods hit three home runs and downed the Truman State Softball team 16-2 on Sunday. The second game of the doubleheader had weather issues and was cancelled midway through the contest.
 
The Bulldogs loaded the bases in the top of the first inning but a foul out ended the threat.
 
Washburn put their first two runners on and Ashton Friend knocked a three-run home run to start the scoring. Kimi Patterson followed with a homer two batters later to make it 4-0. An infield single and a fielder's choice brought it two more runs in the frame.
 
Back-to-back doubles, followed by a two-run single in the second quickly made it 8-0 in favor of the home team. They would add three more in the inning as the pounded out six hits overall before a strikeout ended the at bat with two runners aboard.
 
The Bulldogs got their first run on a homer from Lauren Stade in the fourth inning and added a second on an RBI single from Shelby Webster, scoring McKenzie West in the fifth. West was 2-for-2 with a run scored and Maria McGonegle added her second double of the season.
 
Truman is scheduled to open Great Lakes Valley Conference action on Friday when they host Maryville University for a noon doubleheader.
