KIRKSVILLE, Mo.—After a thrilling walk off win Friday, the Truman Baseball team came up short in two games against the Quincy Hawks 6-1 and 10-0. Connor McKenna (3-5) took the loss for Truman in game one while Jay Hammel (5-2) got the win, and in game two Michael Daggett (2-8) took the loss while Griffin Kirn (4-2) picked up the win.
Game One
The Hawks got on the board early as they put up three in the first. In the bottom of the second Truman had back to back singles to lead off the inning from Holden Missey and Will Fromm. A double steal with one out moved both into scoring position but the Hawks kept the Bulldogs off the board.
Quincy got another run across in the top of the fourth, and Truman got their only run of the game as Brennan Perkins got a leadoff double and then moved to third on a groundout before coming in to score on a balk. Quincy got two more runs in the top of the sixth to make it 6-1 and didn't allow the Bulldogs another baserunner.
Game Two
The Bulldogs got two hits in this game from three players—Missey, Simon Murray and Dakota Spicer. Quincy got one run in the top of the first, but Daggett got out of a bases loaded jam to keep it at 1-0. Missey singled and stole second in the bottom of the frame but was stranded halfway home.
In the second inning Quincy scored three more to make it 4-0, and Spicer reached on a fielder's choice and stole second before he was stranded there to end the inning.
The Hawks added one more in the third, two more in the fourth, one in the sixth and two in the seventh. In the bottom of the seventh the Bulldogs came the closest to home as Spicer led off with a single, then with two outs Murray doubled to right to move Spicer to third. But the Bulldogs could not bring a run across and the plate.
Truman will go for the split tomorrow at 12 as the teams close out the series.
