KIRKSVILLE, Mo.—The Truman Baseball team closed out its 2022 home slate Sunday against Lewis in the series finale, needing a win to stay alive in the hunt for the GLVC Tournament. But the Bulldogs bats went silent as they fell 6-0. Alex Leary (3-7) took the loss while Jake Karaba (1-4) got the win and Ben Davis picked up his first save of the year.
Down 1-0 in the first, Luke Turner hit a one out single and stole second but was stranded halfway home. Lewis added another run in the top of the third and in the bottom of the frame Dylan Thompson got a leadoff single but was caught stealing second.
In the bottom of the fifth, with the score still 2-0, Dakota Spicer hit a two out single to left and then Thompson followed with a double to left. Spicer came home on the play but was thrown out in a close play at the plate.
From there Lewis added one more run in the seventh and two in the ninth to round out the scoring.
Leary threw six innings and allowed only three runs and struck out four. Cole Eggerding threw .2 innings in relief and then JJ Swafford threw the last 2.1 innings of the game. Turner and Thompson each had two hits to lead the Bulldogs.
The Bulldogs will close out their season next weekend at Illinois Springfield, starting on Friday.
