Morris Crowned GLVC Champion In Men's Discus On Friday

BOLIVAR, Mo. - Jacob Morris was crowned the Great Lakes Valley Conference discus champion after he set a personal best/NCAA provisional mark of 52.31 to highlight the Bulldogs day one activities at the league championship meet on Friday.

Morris' previous best was 51.87 and all three of his legal throws on Friday flew over 52 meters. His best was his first countable toss of 52.31 that held up throughout the contest for the win. That distance moved him up to 20th position on the NCAA Division II qualification list entering the weekend's conference meets. 

He would place fifth in the other throwing event on the day as his hammer flew 51.71 meters.

The other team points scored on the men's side came from Kelly Hoskins in the pole vault. Hoskins cleared 4.20 meters to grab sixth place. 

Cooper Doolin and Grant Lair set personal best in their events ran on Friday. Doolin ran 11.36 in the 100-meter dash and 23.23 in the 200-meter dash while Lair ran 1:54.91 in the 800-meter run.

In his final collegiate race, senior Thomas Cormier once again set a PR in the 10,000-meter run. Cormier placed 10th with a time of 31:05.56. 

Two Bulldog women's runners qualified for their respective finals on Saturday with personal best times in the 400-meter dash and 400-meter hurdles. Alayna Pipkin ran 58.67 to qualify fifth in the dash, which took a second off her previous fastest time of 59.93. Kirsten Poole also ran a second better than her career best in the hurdles as she went 1:05.90 to qualify fourth for Saturday's finals.

Poole had an earlier PR time in the 100-meter hurdles as she ran 16.25. Kendall Dasher PR'ed in the 200-meter dash at 27.80 and Addie Mathis PR'ed in the 800 at 2:21.67.  Lily Ende closed the night with a fifth place finish in the women's 10,000-meter run. Ende ran a PR 38:39.07 with a closing 400 time of 1:21.68. 

Truman had three athletes entered in the multi-events that started a day later due to weather. 

Jake Higgs sits in sixth place after scoring 2,979 points through five events of the decathlon. Higgs set PRs in four of the five events on Friday and his highest place in a single event was fourth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 53.85. The most points scored in an event was 711 with a time of 11.70 in the 100-meter dash.

Grace Feeney trails Maryville's Casey Berberich through four events in the Heptathlon. Feeney sits in second with 2,648 points to Berberich's 2,875. Feeney won the shot put with a distance of 10.81 and was second with a PR time of 26.79 in the 200-meter dash. 

Lea Moose was seventh with 2,074 points and matched her PR with a third place finish in the shot put at 10.19 meters.

Day two will get underway early with the conclusion of the multi-events followed by field events around noon and finals of the track events starting around 1:30 p.m. from Plaster Stadium on the campus of Southwest Baptist University.
