KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - The Bulldog Basketball team halted their three-game losing streak with a second half rally and defeated Southwest Baptist 81-71 on Monday afternoon in Pershing Arena. Elijah Hazekamp scored 25 points as the Bulldogs swept the season series over the Bearcats.
The game featured 12 lead changes and seven ties with SBU taking their largest lead at 64-57 with 6:19 to play.
The Bulldogs fought back behind a pair of dunks from Dylan Peeters and a three-pointer by Hazekamp to cut it down to 67-66 at the final media timeout.
Nduka Ogwu tracked down a rebound and they got a feed from Xavier Hall to put Truman on top 68-67. Ogwu finished with 12 points.
Truman State would lead 70-69 before Hazekamp dialed again from distance with a minute to play and then the Bulldog free throw shooting prowess would take over.
Truman would convert on all 10 free throw attempts in the final 50 seconds while taking advantage of some late turnovers by the Bearcats to pull away for the victory.
The Bulldogs went 18-of-20 at the line for the game and 12-of-12 in the second half to overcome a 33-19 rebounding discrepancy and being outscored in second chance points 18-2.
Trey Shearer added 13 points and Hunter Strait a dozen while Hall had eight assists.
Truman will play their next two on the road starting Thursday at Missouri S&T in Rolla.
