INDIANAPOLIS - The nationally-ranked Indianapolis Greyhounds scored two goals in the final 15 minutes, including the winner with six seconds left to defeat the Truman Men's Soccer team 2-1 in the quarterfinal round of the Great Lakes Valley Conference postseason tournament on Sunday.
The Bulldogs scored first and the pressure started when Sam Newton gained possession of the ball and drove down the far sideline to earn a throw in. A Truman defender knocked down a clearing attempt and played a long ball into the 18-yard box where Luke Payne gathered it and touched it past two Greyhound defenders to his right where Jack Kunst buried into the net for the 1-0 lead with 24 minutes left in the first half. It was Knust's fourth goal of the season.
The Bulldogs maintained that lead throughout the first half and the first 32 minutes of the second half.
UINDY played quickly on a corner kick and instead of serving a ball from the end line, they played it out into the field of play where Jakob David crossed the ball to the far post and Bobby Turner pushed it in for the equalizer with 12:42 left to play.
Newton had a shot attempt that went wide for the Bulldogs with less than four minutes left.
The Greyhounds worked the ball in the final minute down the field and attacked the left side where August Abrahamsen and David finally touched the ball to the middle for Michael Tselios to get it into the net with six seconds left to play for the match winner.
Justin Olwig made nine saves as he faced 20 shots, with 11 on net from UINDY. The Bulldogs had only four shots, with the one on goal from Knust that scored.Â
Truman State's season closes with a record of 6-6-4.Â
