Truman Softball Upended On Friday In The Dome

CHICAGO - The Truman State Softball team dropped both games on Friday in the Rosemont Dome Invitational. Truman lost 2-1 in nine innings to Ferris State and 9-1 to Saginaw Valley State. It will be a quick turnaround for the Bulldogs as they close the event with a 9 a.m. game against #12 Grand Valley State followed by a 1 p.m. contest against Minnesota-Moorhead.

Ferris State 2, Truman State 1 (9 Innings)

In the battle of the Bulldogs, it was the Ferris State breed that prevailed over Truman State 2-1 in two extra innings.

The purple Bulldogs struck first as Nina Fenasci executed a perfect safety squeeze bunt that scored pinch runner Macy Taylor from third base in the second inning.

Ferris took advantage of a pair of walks in the fourth and with the bases loaded with two outs and a full count, drew a third walk in the frame to tie the game up.

Truman left the bases loaded in their half of the fourth inning and Ferris did the same in their fifth.

Things quieted down on the base paths until the eighth when the tie-breaker rule of placing the runner at second was utilized.

Ferris left two on in their eighth and Truman left them loaded with no outs in the bottom of the inning.

Ferris would push across their runner in the ninth on an RBI single.

In Truman's last at bat, Fenasci sacrificed Madi McCarty to third for the first out and Emily Eberwine was hit by a pitch. Unfortunately for Truman, a pop out to short and a fly ball out to center ended the game.

Lauren Stade went 2-for-2 and each team left 11 runners on base.

Brooke Nutter followed Annabel Zimmer and starter Breianna Klein in the circle. Nutter struck out five in four and a third innings of relief work.

Saginaw Valley 9, Truman State 1

The Cardinals scored six times in the bottom of the sixth to break open a tight contest.

Sagniaw got their first run on a wild pitch in the first inning and plated two more in the third on a double.

Callie Unrein doubled in Alivia Daniels in the fifth but the Bulldogs left runners on second and third to end the inning.

Alex Beard, McKenzie West and Madi McCarty had the other hits for the Bulldogs.

West got the start and was followed by Annabel Zimmer and Brook Nutter.
