KIRKSVILLE, Mo. –
Sophie Oxandale's chase of the Bulldog 800-meter record ended in California as the trackster clipped the time of 2:11.78 by four-tenths of a second at the highly-touted Bryan Clay Invitational hosted by Azusa Pacific University.
Oxandale broke the indoor 800 Truman mark this winter at 2:14.56 then ran 2:11.38 to place 13
th out of 144 mid-distance runners in the national event. Oxandale's time broke Anne Raterman's 2011 clocking of 2:11.78.
Lexy Henrikson set a PR in the race with a time of 2;17.15 and
Addie Mathis ran 2:18.40. Henrikson and Mathis will compete in the 1500 meter run tomorrow evening in Azusa.
Nathan Key set a PR in the men's 800 as he joined the California adventure. Key ran 1:56.26 and took five-tenths off his previous best time in the event. He too will run the men's 1500 on Saturday.
The rest of the Bulldogs headed to historic Drake Stadium for the Jim Duncan Invite.
Quinn Albertson followed up her PR mark in the Javelin with a second in the meet at 40.75 meters. She was second with Bulldog
Natalie Telep (39.23) and
Jaylynn Martin (37.40) coming in third and fourth.
Ellie Weltha was the top Division II finisher in the Shot Put with a mark of 13.86 meters and finished sixth overall. She was seventh in the Discus at 42.12 meters.
Breanna Mathes had a top-five finish in the women's 5000 meter run with a time of 18:46.50.
Jacob Morris competed in three events on Friday. He finished third in the Discus (55.73), fifth in the Hammer (58.74) and ninth in the Shot Put (15.51).
Hayden Long claimed third in the Javelin with a chuck of 53.53.
All four 1500 runners on the men's side set PR times. Evan AuBuchon ran 4:03.28,
Gavin Hill paced 4:10.12,
Ryan Gustafson ran 4:14.84 and
Sam Kallaos ran 4:22.46.
