KIRKSVILLE, MO. – Two strong pitching performances by Truman State were overshadowed by similar performances from their counterparts at Lewis University as the Flyers grabbed a pair of Great Lakes Valley Conference games from the Bulldogs by scores of 3-0 and 2-0 on Wednesday afternoon.
Annabel Zimmer allowed just a solo home run to Carrie Anderson in the second inning as the only hit until the seventh before Lewis added a pair of insurance runs in the 3-0 loss. The Bulldogs were limited to a first inning single by Mackenzie West and a seventh inning hit by
Emily Eberwine.
Game two saw the game scoreless until a two-out rally in the fifth by the Flyers. An infield single that just grazed the top of pitcher
Breianna Klein's glove, followed by a walk and a double from Kristen Graham gave Lewis the 1-0 lead. Anderson struck again in the sixth with her second home run of the afternoon, also coming after the first two hitters had been set down to make it 2-0.
Allie Wondrasek retired the first 14 hitters she faced before Eberwine smashed a single to left center field with two outs in the fifth. West doubled to lead off the seventh but was stranded as Wondrasek faced two over the minimum to shutout the Bulldogs 2-0.
Klein took the hard luck loss after allowing both runs to score with two outs and gave up only five hits.
The Bulldogs will head to Quincy University on Sunday for a conference doubleheader with the Hawks starting at noon.
