INDIANAPOLIS - Truman State Track & Field's Sophie Oxandale and Jacob Morris were both selected as the GLVC Athletes of the Week in the final selections before the conference outdoor championships this weekend.
Oxandale reset her 800-meter record on Thursday at the Drake Relays when she ran 2:11.07. Oxandale finished sixth in the race and enters the conference meet ranked first in the league and 35th in Division II. She owns both the Truman State indoor and outdoor 800-meter records. She last earned Athlete of the Week honors on February 15th.
Morris picked up his ninth career Track & Field weekly honor, his third outdoor award this season and fifth during the academic year. He was the Drake Relays Champion in the invited Discus throw on Friday evening. He won the event with a mark of 57.29 meters and then on Saturday placed seventh in the hammer with a distance of 58.62 meters. Â
Morris heads into the conference meet ranked first in both the javelin and discus, second in the hammer throw and fourth in the shot put. Nationally, Morris has the top discus throw in Division II this season at 58.37 meters and is 16th in the hammer (60.01 meters). Â
The GLVC Outdoor Track & Field Championships begin on Thursday with the start of the Decathlon and Heptathlon, the men's and women's hammer throw, the 10,000-meter run and prelims of the 1,500 meter run. The championships are being hosted by Missouri S&T and will be streamed on the Great Lakes Valley Conference Sports Network.Â
