KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - Following two losses on the road, the Truman State Men's basketball team looks to get back on track with McKendree and Missouri-St. Louis coming to Pershing Arena in Kirksville.
Truman fell 92-73 to Rockhurst on January 25th. The Hawks stepped on the gas late in the first-half, going up 42-17 with 6:19 left. The Bulldogs were able to cut the lead to 11 before half, down 50-39.
Truman State continued to grind away, getting the Rockhurst lead down to four with 9:01 left in the game, but the Hawks went on another run and ended up winning by 19.
Landon Eiland led Truman in scoring, dropping 14 on 6-11 shooting from the field and 2-4 from three. He had a team-high seven rebounds as well, along with an assist.
Brennan Lovette and Casen Lawrence were Truman's other double-digit scorers, both with 12 points. Lovette had six rebounds and an assist, while Lawrence had a rebound, three assists, and two steals.
Xavier Hall led Truman in assists once again, having seven along with eight points.
As a team Truman shot 28-62 (45.2%) from the field and 10-35 (28.6%) from three.
Truman also lost William Jewell College 74-72 in a very close game. The Bulldogs finished the first-half up 39-31 with the help of 11 points from Trey Shearer. Truman shot 16-29 from the field and 4-8 from three. William Jewell was 12-27 from the field and 5-13 on three-pointers.
The second-half favored the Cardinals, outscoring Truman 43-33. The Bulldogs struggled shooting, going 11-28 (39.3%) and 2-8 (25.0%) from three. With 0:31 left in the game, Truman was down 72-71, and Kobi Williams hit a free throw to tie the game up. William Jewell's Isaac Patterson made a layup with 0:05 left in the game that ended up being the winner. Kobi Williams took a last-second three for the win, but it missed.
Trey Shearer was Truman's top scorer, having 18 on 8-14 shooting. He also had three rebounds and two assists.
Brennan Lovette had 13 points on 5-8 shooting, while leading the team with seven rebounds.
Kobi Williams and Landon Eiland both had nine points.
Xavier Hall had a game-high eight assists.
Through 18 games, Kobi Williams and Trey Shearer are still averaging double-digit points. Williams is at 12.3 points and Shearer averages 11.6.
Xavier Hall is still right behind with 9.5 points, Brennan Lovette is at 8.6, and Landon Eiland scores 7.8 per game.
Kobi Williams is ranked 23rd in the GLVC in scoring with 12.3 points per game, just behind UMSL's Mayson Quartlebaum who averages 12.4. Williams is also 11th in free throw percentage, shooting .824 from the line.
Landon Eiland is Truman's leading rebounder and tied for 21st in the conference. UMSL's Troy Glover II is tops in the GLVC with 7.7 boards per game. Kobi averages 1.1 steals per game which is good for 19th in the conference.
Trey Shearer is 17th in the GLVC in field goal percentage, shooting .487 on 150 shots. He is eighth in the league in 3-point field goal percentage at .416. Shearer's 31.3 minutes per game is 14th in the conference.
Xavier Hall is the GLVC assists leader by a good margin, averaging 5.2 per game, with the next closest being Lovell Williams and Jordan Rice at 4.9. Hall is also the leading in assist/turnover ratio with 2.5.
McKendree's Milos Vicentic is second in scoring in the GLVC, averaging 22.1 points per game. Vicentic shoots .543 from the field and .402 from three. He has two 30 point games, coming against Tiffin and Rockhurst. Milos has nine other 20 point games in the 2023-24 season.
Carson Parker is the Bearcats' leading rebounder, grabbing 7.2 per game. Parker also leads in assists with 2.7 a game.
Caleb Zurliene is the best shot blocker in the GLVC, swatting 2.9 shots per game.
For UMSL Matt Enright and Mayson Quartlebaum are tied in scoring at 12.4 points per game. Emanuel Prospere II is at 10.3 points and Troy Glover II puts up 9.4 a game. Enright leads the squad in assists with 3.3 per game, and Troy Glover II leads the team and is third in the GLVC in blocked shots with 1.4 a contest.
Following the home games against McKendree and UMSL, the Bulldogs hit the road again to take on Lewis and Indianapolis on February 8th and 10th.
