KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – Missouri Valley College edged the Truman State women's tennis team by a 4-3 final on Thursday afternoon. The Bulldogs will look to close out their fall season when they travel to Ottawa (Kan.) for an invitational on October 25.
The Bulldogs went up 1-0 in the team scoring by winning all three doubles matches.
Sydney Dial and
Nayana Malangi powered their way to a 6-3 win at number one while
Finley Laforge and
Abbi Worster eased past their opponents 6-1 at number two.
Cora Wood and
Amelia Willing won by default at number three.
Wood was awarded a default win at number six singles and Dial picked up a straight-set win at number won to make it 3-0 Bulldogs. The #5 singles match finished next and
Alayna Dostal dropped a hard-fought 6-4 7-6 (7-5) match to make the team score 3-1.
The Vikings picked up team points at number 2 and 4 singles with a 6-4, 6-4 win at the second and a 7-5, 6-0 win at the fourth spot.
At number three, Deborah Mihizha of Missouri Valley won the first set by a 7-5 tally but
Finley Laforge forced a tiebreaker with a 6-1 win in the second set. It came down to the tiebreaker and Mihizha outlasted Laforge 10-8 to earn the win and the match for Missouri Valley.
The Bulldogs drop to 5-3 in dual matches this fall.
