KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – Truman State Volleyball defeated William Jewell (Mo.) in straight sets to keep its winning streak alive at five Friday night in Pershing Arena.
The Bulldogs regained the lead in Set 1, 11-7, behind four straight points on an
Autumn Erickson serve. Kills from
Lily Porter,
Makayla Way, and
Hannah Hosty allowed the Purple and White to stretch the lead to 15-9 when William Jewell won seven of the next 10 points to pull within two at 18-16.
Jessie Julius notched a kill at 20-20 then followed with two points off her serve before the 'Dogs finally pulled away to win Set 1, 25-22.
Truman State stormed out of the gates in Set 2 taking a commanding 10-3 lead early before eventually stretching the margin to nine at 14-5. The Cardinals took back momentum winning seven of 10 of their own to pull back within five, 17-12, when two kills each from
Michaela Goad and Erickson allowed the Bulldogs to cushion their lead to 21-14. A 5-1 run by the Cardinals got them within three, 22-19, before Truman State got a two timely Julius kills to seal the Set 2 win, 25-22.
The two traded points to open Set 3 until William Jewell stretched a 7-6 lead out to 10-7. At 12-11, the Bulldogs got the serve back on a William Jewell attack error, then
Tori Creason and
Taylar Schafer served a stretch where the Purple and White claimed eight of nine points to climb to a lead of 18-13. Two Cardinal kills and two bad Bulldog sets cut the deficit from six to two, 20-18, before Truman State finally secured a 25-23 Set 3 win.
Truman State's record now stands at 5-16 overall, 2-4 GLVC, after beginning the '24 campaign 0-16. William Jewell falls to 7-16 overall, 1-6 in conference action.
Bulldog Volleyball returns to action at 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, in a GLVC showdown against Rockurst (Mo.) University (14-5 overall, 5-2 GLVC) in Pershing Arena.
