INDIANAPOLIS – Sophomore quarterback
Dylan Hair was selected as the Great Lakes Valley Conference Offensive Player of the Week following one of few record-breaking performances in the Bulldogs' 55-3 victory over Southwest Baptist on Saturday.
Hair tied a 20-year old school record with six touchdown passes on Saturday. He matched Jake Czeschin's 2004 single-game mark set against Missouri S&T. He had five TD tosses in the first half of 34, 23, 30, 26 and 18 then in the third quarter found
Christopher Kerr for a 38-yard strike before departing the game up 48.3. Three of those touchdown passes went to Joesph Spaulding, one shy of the single-game receiving touchdown mark.
He finished an efficient 18-of-23 for 277 yards.
His 25 touchdown passes this season ties him for second on the school's single-season list with Eric Howe (2000) and Matt Ticich (2007). He has also thrown for more passing yards by a Bulldogs quarterback in a season since Ticich threw for 2,347 in 2008. Hair sits at 2,235 yards.
The Bulldogs also had a few others that set major achievements on Saturday. Linebacker
Ulysses Ross recorded 1.5 tackles for loss and took over sole possession of second place on the career charts at Truman State with 43.5.
Cornerback and punt returner
Jake Closser set a new Truman State single-game record with an 86-yard touchdown return. He had a previous best of 80-yards earlier this season and broke the 1989 single-game record of 84 yards by Tony Gerke against Lincoln. Closser moved into second place in single-season punt return yards with 324 and his 22.1 return average on 16 attempts will currently break the 67-year record of 19.5 held by Dale "Paley" Mills since 1957.
Closser also picked off his 11
th career interception during the game moving him into a tie for seventh place on that career record. His younger brother
Nick Closser nabbed the other interception in the game.
