KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – The Truman State Men's and Women's Soccer programs each had multiple Bulldogs represented in postseason award lists.
The Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) named freshman defender
Zoran Sabbert, senior midfielder
Olivia Morris, and Bulldog Women's Soccer as its James R. Spalding Sportsmanship Award recipients for 2024. Four men and six women were named to the College Sports Communicators 2024-25 Academic All-District teams.
Sabbert started 15 of 16 matches during his debut season for the Truman State Men's Soccer program. The defender tallied an assist in a 4-1 loss to Drury (Mo.) while notching two shots on goal for a Bulldog team that finished 4-7-5 overall and 3-6-5 in GLVC play.
Morris earned the individual GLVC award for the 2024 season after a four-year career where she started 61 of 63 matches, netted six goals and three assists, and accumulated 41 shots for the Purple and White. She scored the equalizer in a 1-1 draw against William Jewell (Mo.) in the 74th minute of play while helping lead Truman State back to the conference postseason tournament for the first time since her freshman year.
Truman State Women's Soccer received the team award for the fourth consecutive season dating back to 2021-22 in a year where the squad earned the No. 8 seed and berth in the 2024 GLVC Women's Soccer Championship. A 1-0 loss at No. 1 seed Maryville (Mo.) University ended the season for the 'Dogs 5-9-4 overall and 4-7-3 in the GLVC ledger.
The James R. Spalding Sportsmanship Awards recognize GLVC institutions and student-athletes who demonstrate exemplary sportsmanship, character, and conduct during a season's competition. Institutions with the highest point total among the individual nominees and teams in each sport are awarded the James R. Spalding Overall Sportsmanship Award with Truman State earning the award following the 2018-19 and 2016-17 academic years.
