Bouckaert, Bulldogs tie #24 Maryville to stay in postseason hunt

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Tyler Bouckaert's goal in the 70th minute of play allowed Truman State to fight Maryville to a draw, 2-2, Friday.

It was the second time in as many matches – the first an 89th minute tally against Missouri S&T Oct. 27 - where a timely Bouckaert score allowed the Bulldogs to come from behind and earn a draw. Against the Saints, the 'Dogs stayed in the Maryville zone after a free kick from the top of the penalty box when a Holden Potter cross paired with a nifty touch from Nathan Grewe on the right side found Bouckaert in the 70th minute.

Truman State had been playing behind after a scoreless first half changed quickly when Maryville's Yayo Mutombo scored in the 49th minute and again in the 65th. Jacob Panagos responded for the Purple and White one minute later with the second goal of his career, assisted by Jack Johnson, off a Zoran Sabbart throw in.

The Saints pressured hard as time waned notching seven shots in the final 15 minutes, but the Bulldog defense and keeper Justin Olwig fended off the attack and notable attempts by Mutombo to tally a hat trick.

The draw brings the Truman State GLVC point total to 14, 4-6-5 overall record, 3-5-5 in league action, after starting the day just on the outside looking in for a postseason berth. The regular season concludes Sunday at UMSL with a 3 p.m. start time.
