Kirksville, Mo. – The Truman State Men's Soccer team battled to a 1–1 tie with Hannibal-LaGrange University on Thursday night at Stokes Stadium in front of a rowdy crowd.
The Bulldogs had the better of possession and chances throughout the match, registering 12 total shots to the Trojans' seven. Despite creating early pressure, Truman found itself down in the second half when HLGU's Henry Munoz converted a penalty in the 67th minute to give the visitors a 1–0 lead.
Truman responded with determination. In the 79th minute, the Bulldogs found their equalizer off a scrappy finish on a throw-in near the left hand corner of the Bulldog's attacking zone that was credited as a team goal, bringing the score level at 1–1.
Goalkeeper Owen Robben was solid between the posts, recording four saves across the two halves. Defensively, veterans Liam Snowball and Zoran Sabbert anchored the back line, while Tyler Bouckaert and Frank Robinson steadied play in the midfield. Up top, Mason Willier kept constant pressure on the Trojan defense, leading the team with three shots.
The match proved physical, as both teams combined for two yellow cards and 23 fouls. For Truman, Willier was shown a yellow in the 52nd minute, while Hannibal-LaGrange's Campbell Edward was cautioned late in the 88th.
This wrapped up a big day for Bulldog Athletics that featured both soccer teams finishing their season openers with 1-1 draws.
