Bulldogs Drop A Pair On Saturday

ROSEMONT, Ill. - Grand Valley State and Minnesota State Moorhead downed the Truman Softball team on Saturday. The Lakers won the opener 9-0 and the Dragons grabbed the nightcap 11-3.

The Bulldogs will close the tournament on Sunday morning facing the Hillsdale (Mich.) Chargers at 8 a.m.

#5 Grand Valley St. 9, Truman State 0

The fifth-ranked Lakers flexed their muscles in a 9-0, six inning victory over the Bulldogs on Saturday morning.

Grand Valley State got a 2-run homer to start things off and added two more runs in the second to stake out to a 4-0 lead.

The Bulldogs had chances as they had runners on second and third with only one out in the first but failed to score and left runners on base in the second, third, fourth and fifth innings, stranding eight for the game.

Cassie Smith went 2-for-3 in the game.

Minnesota State Moorhead 11, Truman State 3

Things started off strong as the Bulldogs scored three runs in the top of the first inning but a late burst by the Dragons of Minnesota Moorhead ended the game in their favor by a score of 11-3.

Cameryn Patterson picked up an RBI double to score Cassie Smith then Brieanna Klein shot a ball up the middle to score both Patterson and Charlotte Chelich for a 3-0 lead.

The Dragons got two back on a home run in the fifth.

A leadoff double opened the bottom of the sixth and following a walk and sac bunt, the Dragons pushed across nine runs in the inning to end the game via run rule.
