KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - Truman State softball swept GLVC opponent Upper Iowa in a Sunday doubleheader.
Game One:
Cameryn Patterson and Nina Fenasci got Truman on the board in the first inning with Patterson hitting an RBI double and Fenasci scoring Charlotte Chelich on a groundout.
No more runs were scored until the fifth inning, with Upper Iowa hitting a home run and Patterson bringing Emily Wood home with a sacrifice fly.
Upper Iowa made it a 3-2 game in the top of the sixth, but Emily Wood made it a 6-2 game in the bottom of the inning with a three-run home run.
The Peacocks of Upper Iowa made it a close game in the top of the seventh and final inning, with Rae VanMilligan hitting a home run that scored three. The Bulldogs and pitcher Charlotte Chelich were able to hold on to win 6-5.
Chelich went 3-3 with a run and walk.
Emily Wood, Cameryn Patterson, and Breianna Klein all recorded hits, with Wood driving in three and Patterson bringing two home.
Lily Arndt was walked twice and scored once.
Maddie Anderson took the win after throwing 5.2 innings with six strikeouts.

Game Two:
The Bulldogs scored in the first inning again, with Cameryn Patterson hitting an RBI double and Breianna Klein driving Patteron and Chelich with a two-RBI single up the middle.
Upper Iowa cut the Truman lead to one in the second with a two-run homer.
Truman State exploded in the second and fourth innings, scoring seven runs. Charlotte Chelich and Abby Danchus both hit RBI singles in the second to make it a 5-2 game. Danchus hit another RBI single, Sofia Birkenholz walked and Breianna Klein scored, Madi McCarty hit a two-RBI double, Nina Fenasci had an RBI single, and McCarty got home off a groundout in the fourth.
The Peacocks scored a run in the top of the fifth, but the Bulldogs did not give up any more runs in the inning and the game ended via run-rule.
Kaylyn Jones threw 4.1 innings, allowing seven hits and three earned runs. Jones struck out three with no walks in the 19 batters she faced.
Breianna Klein threw 0.2 innings in the fifth, getting out both hitters.
Abbie Danchus went 3-3 with two RBI and a run.
Emily Wood, Charlotte Chelich, Cameryn Patterson, Breianna Klein, and Brooke Nutter all had two-hit games.
Madi McCarty went 1-2 with two RBI, and Nina Fenasci went 1-1 with an RBI.
Sofia Birkenholz went 0-1 but was walked twice and scored once.
