Softball Garners Split With Southwest Baptist On Friday

BOLIVAR, Mo. - The Bulldog Softball team was able to win the second game to earn a split with Southwest Baptist University on Friday. The Bearcats won the opener 4-1 while Truman State took game two 5-2. The Bulldogs return to action on Saturday in Springfield facing Drury University.

The Bulldogs managed just three hits in the first game scored runs in the third and fourth innings in the first game. Emily Wood had two of the three hits as Truman left eight runners on base in the game.

The lone run scored in the sixth when Cameryn Patterson raced home on a passed ball.

The sticks awoke in the second game as Truman jumped on top with a run in the first and four in the second to go up 5-0. Wood singled and stole second and later scored on an error.

The Bearcats left the bases loaded in the bottom of the inning and Truman used that momentum for their big frame. Charlotte Chelich, Abbie Manchus and Sofia Birkenholz started the innings with singles and Brooke Nutter drew a bases loaded walk for the first run. Madi McCarty followed with an RBI single, Wood picked up another RBI on a fielder's choice and Cassie Smith brought in Nutter on a ground out.

Maddie Anderson worked all seven innings to pick up the win. She allowed two runs on 10 hits and struck out five.
