ST. LOUIS - The Truman Softball team came up empty over the weekend as they suffered a doubleheader sweep at the hands of Missouri-St. Louis on Sunday by scores of 1-0 and 4-2.
Game one was a pitchers duel with Maddie Anderson and Ashley Borowitz both surrendering only four hits in the game. It was a solo home run by UMSL's Simia Spahiev on an 0-2 count to lead off the bottom of the fifth being the only run scored.
Emily Wood was 2-for-3 with a stolen base and a triple. Her one-out triple came in the fourth inning but she was stranded there. Anderson struck out five and did not walk a batter.
Cassie Smith scored after hitting an infield single in the first inning to stake the Bulldogs to a 1-0 lead in game two. Smith was 3-for-4 with three stolen bases in the game and her first, of third base, allowed her to scamper home on a wild pitch.
A one-out, two run single in the third inning put the Tritons on top 2-1.
Cameryn Patterson was hit by a pitch and got to second on a wild pitch. Madi McCarty reached on a throwing error by the pitcher and Patterson scored to tie the game. McCarty was stranded at third base, having reached it with only one out.
Fast forward to the bottom of the sixth with two outs when a single to right field scored the eventual winning run. UMSL would tack on an insurance run later in the inning.
The Bulldogs went quietly in the seventh.
Truman will step outside of conference play with a Wednesday doubleheader against future GLVC foe Lincoln University in Jefferson City starting at 2 p.m.
