PELLA, Iowa – The Truman State Women's Tennis team got strong performances from their seniors in defeating Central (Iowa) College 5-4 on Wednesday afternoon.
The Bulldogs grabbed a 2-1 lead following a couple of close wins in doubles play.
Allie Brown and
Sydney Dial outlasted Emma Murphy and Lauren Gano 8-6 at number one and
Akansha Negi and
Abbi Worster downed Jenna Mahoney and Becca Vala 8-5 at number two.
Dial grabbed the first singles point with a 6-0, 6-2 win at number three singles while Negi had to retire at number two. Central won points at number four and six singles to take the lead 4-3 with two matches remaining on the court.
Senior
Samantha Seggerman won the first set 6-2 in the five spot and fended off Emma Murphy in the second set 7-5 to square the match at four apiece.
Brown fell behind by a set after losing the opening stanza 6-2 in the top singles match. She would rally for a 6-2 win in set two to force a third set and match tiebreaker. Brown would take the decider 10-5 to grab the final point for the Bulldogs.
Truman improves to 9-8 in dual matches this season and will wrap up the regular season with four conference tilts over the next two weekends. The Bulldogs will be at William Jewell (Mo.) and Rockhurst this Friday and Saturday.
