DES MOINES - The Truman State Track & Field team finished preparations for the upcoming conference meet by competing at the Kip Janvrin Open at Simpson (Iowa) College while Jacob Morris was invited to throw at the Drake Relays.

Top ten finishers for the Bulldogs at Simpson were Kelly Hoskins with a third in the Pole Vault, Max McMullen with a seventh in the High Jump, Hailey Derboven with a sixth in the Triple Jump, Elaina Gorton with a ninth in the Shot and 10th in the Hammer and Vada Moore, Addison Walker and Maddy Hall finishing seventh, eighth and ninth in the Long Jump. 

Personal bests were achieved by Gorton in the Hammer (42.60m), Maddy Hall in the Long Jump (4.90m) and Hailey Derboven in the Triple Jump (9.39m). Men's PRs were hit by Hayden Long in the 110m Hurdles (16.70), Kelly Hoskins in the Pole Vault (4.50m), Jackson Figo in the Shot Put (12.73m) and Nick Fuess in the Steeplechase (10:47.85).

Up the road at Drake, Jacob Morris competed in two events at the Drake Relays. Morris was invited to participate in a limited Discus field event and he finished fifth with a season-best toss of 56.58 meters. He was 22nd in the Hammer Throw at 56.28 meters.

The eyes of the Great Lakes Valley Conference track world will be on Stokes Stadium as the league will host their 2024 Outdoor Championships in Kirksville next weekend. Events will kick off on Thursday with the men's and women's Hammer throw, the start of the Decathlon and Heptathlon and the 10,000-meter runs. Truman last hosted the GLVC Championships in 2019.
