Truman State Baseball Wins Final Game Of The 2024 Season

FAYETTE, Iowa - Truman State baseball wrapped up their 2024 season against Upper Iowa, going 1-3 against the Peacocks.

Game One:

Upper Iowa shut the Bulldogs out in the first game, winning 9-0.

The Peacocks scored four in the first, one in the third, two in the fourth, and two in the fifth.

The Bulldogs had a great chance in the top of sixth, loading the bases, but Truman was unable to bring any runners home.

Colin Mueth, Oliver Degenhardt, Luke Turner, and Luke Roussel all had two-hit games.

Tal Dean and Will Fromm had Truman's other two hits. Dean and Roussel recorded doubles in the ballgame.

Game Two:

The Bulldogs scored one run in the first and second to take a 2-0 lead early. Oliver Degenhardt hit a solo homer in the first and Luke Turner had one of his own in the second.

No more runs were scored until the fifth inning, when Upper Iowa tallied a run to make it a 2-1 game.

Upper Iowa's Jared Hoodjer hit a two-run, walk-off double in the bottom of the seventh to win the game.

Dakota Joggerst led the team in hits with two, recorded a double he was hit by a pitch.

Oliver Degenhardt, Dylan Thompson, Luke Turner, and Tyler Tieman had hits in the game.

Starter Alex Leary threw 5.0 innings with just one earned run. Leary struck out six, walked five, and allowed five this.

Game Three:

The Bulldogs got off to a good start once again in the third game, going up 3-0. Tal Dean hit a two-RBI double that scored Dylan Thompson and Oliver Degenhardt. Luke Turner then brought Dakota Joggerst in with a groundout.

The Peacocks went on to score nine unanswered to take a 9-3 lead.

Will Fromm scored Dakota Joggerst with a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning to cut the Upper lead to five.

Upper Iowa scored three more in the bottom of the sixth, and won the game 12-4.

Colin Mueth, Oliver Degenhardt, Dakota Joggerst, Tal Dean, and Tyler Tieman had hits. Dean led the team in RBI with two. Joggerst and Dylan Thompson were walked twice.

Game Four:

The Bulldogs took a win in their final game of the season, and got it started in the first when Dakota Joggerst brought Oliver Degenhardt in with a single.

The Peacocks took a 2-1 in the bottom of the same inning with a two-run homer.

Truman State dominated the rest of the game, scoring 10 more in the fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh innings.

Will Fromm scored on a Kevin Donohue groundout in the fourth inning.

In the fifth inning, Will Fromm hit a sacrifice fly that plated Dakota Joggerst, Kevin Donohue walked with the bases loaded, Colin Mueth hit an RBI single, Alex Wittenauer scored on a fielder's choice, and Dylan Thompson hit a double that brought Colin Mueth in.

Kevin Donohue had another RBI in the sixth, hitting a double to left that scored Tal Dean.

The Bulldogs tacked on two more in the seventh when Degenhardt scored on a Dakota Joggerst groundout, and Dylan Thompson got home on a wild pitch.

Dylan Thompson had an astounding six hits in the game, recording on in every at-bat. He had three doubles, one RBI, and one run.

Oliver Degenhardt had a two-hit performance. He had an RBI, a run, and a stolen base.

Colin Mueth, Dakota Joggerst, Luke Turner, Will Fromm, Alex Wittenauer, and Kevin Donohue accounted for the rest of Truman's hits. Mueth had an RBI and a run, Joggerst drove two in along with a run and a stolen base, Turner had a run and was hit by a pitch, Fromm had an RBI and a run, Wittenauer got home once and was walked twice, and Donohue had a team-high three RBI with a walk and a run.

Tal Dean went 0-3 at the plate but was walked three times and scored once.

Jordan Marlott had a great pitching performance, throwing 6.2 innings with three earned runs, four hits, a career-high 12 strikeouts, and no walks.

Evan Still threw 0.1 innings with one earned run.

Brian Bruxvoort threw an inning with two strikeouts and no earned runs.

Jaren Guck had a shutout inning, striking out a batter.

The Bulldogs finish their season with a 12-38 record overall, and went 9-27 in conference play.
