Tennis Edged Out 4-3 In Tight Contest With Missouri Baptist

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - It came down to the end but Missouri Baptist edged the Truman State Women's Tennis team 4-3 on Friday afternoon.

The Spartans won the first doubles match but the Bulldogs evened the score when Finley Laforge and Amelia Willing won number three by a 6-3 score after falling behind 3-0. At number two, Akansha Negi and Abbi Worster got up 5-4 but their opponents battled back to tie the contest and won 7-4 in the tie break to win the doubles points for Missouri Baptist.

Laforge won by an injury at number four to square the match at one each.

Sydney Dial picked up a straight set win at number one but Missouri Baptist won at number six to keep things tied.

Spartans pushed ahead with a win at number three singles.

Abbi Worster won a super tiebreaking third set 10-7 to even the team score at three apiece and attention turned to number two singles for the decided bout.

Malangi dropped the first set 6-3 but rallied to force the super tiebreaker by a 6-4 set two score. Malangi fought back from a 6-2 deficit to tie the set at nine each before Missouri Baptist scored the final two points to take the team match.

The Bulldogs had been scheduled to play Missouri Valley on Saturday but due to a scheduling conflict, that match has been postponed. The next on-court action will take place on September 24 against Illinois College at the Truman State Tennis Courts.
