INDIANAPOLIS – Truman State returner
Jake Closser has been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Special Teams Player of The Week. Closser returned a punt 80 yards for a touchdown in Saturday's 31-17 win over Wayne (Mich.) State.
It was a punt return that wasn't blocked taken for a touchdown since Spencer Newell raced 71 yards in a September 2019 game against Valparaiso (Ind.). It was also the second-longest punt return in school history, four yards shy of Anthony Gerke's 84-yard touchdown against Lincoln (Mo.) University in 1989.
It was Closser's fifth career touchdown and first as a punt returner. His previous four scores have all come on interception returns.
