Kirksville, Mo. – The Truman State Men's Soccer team closed out its weekend homestand with a pair of Great Lakes Valley Conference matches, falling to Southwest Baptist 3-0 on Friday before dropping a 2-0 decision to Drury on Sunday afternoon at Stokes Stadium.
Southwest Baptist 3, Truman State 0
Southwest Baptist used a quick first-half surge to build a lead that Truman couldn't recover from in Friday night's matchup. The Bearcats struck twice in the 30th minute, with Victor Valero opening the scoring off a pass from Fisher Hudak, and just 24 seconds later Zinedine Cherik doubled the advantage on a feed from Valero.
Truman regrouped after halftime and put together a stronger second half, outshooting SBU 10-3 after the break. The Bulldogs earned three corner kicks and forced multiple saves from goalkeeper Jan-Henry Schafer, but couldn't find the back of the net. SBU added an insurance goal in the 72nd minute through Derrick Londono to cap the 3-0 result.
Oliver Doyle led Truman with three shots (one on goal), while Jacob Panagos and Zoran Sabbert each tallied two shots apiece. Goalkeeper Owen Robben made three saves in the match.
Drury 2, Truman State 0
Truman followed with a tightly contested matchup on Sunday, holding Drury scoreless for over 70 minutes before the Panthers capitalized late to secure a 2-0 victory.
Drury finally broke through in the 75th minute when Lui Bull scored to give the visitors a 1-0 lead. The Panthers doubled the advantage just five minutes later as Rian Mulherin converted in the 81st minute to put the match out of reach.
Despite the scoreline, the Bulldogs stayed competitive throughout, generating seven total shots and earning three corners. Brady Lombardo led Truman with two shots, while Jacob Panagos and Mason Willier each recorded attempts on goal. Robben turned in a strong performance in net, posting 10 saves to keep Truman within reach.
