ROSEMONT, Ill. - The Truman State Softball team found themselves on both ends of run-ruled games on day two in Chicago. The team blanked Minnesota State Moorhead 8-0 before falling to St. Cloud (Minn.) State 16-3.
Kaylyn Jones pitched four hitless innings and struck out eight Dragons in the opener. The Bulldogs jumped out to a 2-0 lead on RBI singles from Avaree Taylor and Caragan Baker with two outs in the first inning and then tacked on single runs in both the second and third.
The Bulldogs scored three times in the fourth to go up 7-0.
Minnesota State got their only hit of the game with two outs in the fifth and the Truman State ended the game in the bottom of the inning on a throwing error,
Cassie Smith went 3-for-3, Taylor and Baker each went 2-for-2 and Nina Fenasci went 2-for-3 as the Bulldogs pounded out 11 hits.
The nightcap against St. Cloud started off positive with Charlotte Chelich belting a home run and Baker following with an RBI single to make it 3-0 in the top of the first.
However, the Huskies got a sac fly to score one in their half of the inning and then exploded for a 10-spot in the second and a four-run third inning to put the game out of reach.
Smith and Baker each went 2-for-3.
