KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – It was raining three-pointers in Pershing Arena on Saturday as the Truman State Men's Basketball team knocked down 16 triples including 10 in the second half to turn around a nine-point deficit to a 79-73 win over Southwest Baptist.
Casen Lawrence scored a career-high 24 points with eight three-pointers on 14 attempts and had the biggest connections as the Bulldogs pushed past SBU seven minutes into the second half. His second during that span gave Truman a 50-49 lead.
The Bulldogs grabbed their largest lead at 71-61 with 4:31 to play but needed clutch free throw shooting down the stretch to fend off the Bearcats. SBU got to within five at 75-70 with a minute left before
Xavier Hall knocked down his free throws and
Kobi Williams converted on both ends of a one-and-one to seal the win.
Hall finished with a double-double with 13 points and tied his career-high with 13 assists. Williams finished with 15 points and six rebounds.
Southwest Baptist dropped in 10 three-pointers on the day and were 19-of-20 from the foul line. Drenin Dinkins paced the Bearcats 15 points.
The win avenged an earlier loss to SBU as the two teams split their season series.
The Bulldogs head out to Lincoln on Thursday and league leader Missouri S&T next Saturday.
