INDIANAPOLIS - Truman State Softball's Emily Wood was voted first-team All-Great Lakes Valley Conference by league coaches, and Cassie Smith, Caragan Baker, and Avaree Taylor each earned second-team accolades.
Truman State, as a team, led the GLVC in league games with a .328 batting average, a .474 slugging percentage, and had the fewest strikeouts with 103 in the 28 games played. The squad's overall .327 batting average and 98 doubles rank second in program history.
Wood broke the 2001 single-season doubles record with 22 on the year, one better than Elizabeth Economon. She hit .399 overall and .382 in conference play with a league-best 15 doubles to go along with 25 runs batted in. She was a second-team All-GLVC performer last season as well.
Smith broke Economon's school record when she hit safely in 22 straight games during the first part of the season and batted .418 overall with 22 stolen bases. In conference play, Smith hit .382 with six doubles and 11 stolen bases. This is Smith's second All-Conference honor, as she was voted to the first team a season ago.
Baker was third on the squad in hitting with a .379 overall average and added seven doubles, a triple, and a pair of home runs. In conference play, Baker batted .364 with 11 runs batted in.
Taylor started all 28 conference games and drew a team-high 11 walks while hitting .333 with five doubles, a home run, and 17 RBIs. Overall, Taylor finished with a .338 average in 51 games played.
Nina Fenasci was selected as the team's representative for the James R. Spalding Sportsmanship Award.
