Truman State Baseball Announces 2026 Recruiting Class

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – Truman State University head baseball coach Dan Davis announced the signing of six student-athletes for the 2026 recruiting class. The class includes four pitchers, one middle infielder, and one catcher, representing Missouri, Kansas, and Texas.

"We are thrilled with this signing class," said Davis, who is entering his 20th season leading the Bulldogs. "We identified specific needs in our program and went out and found quality young men who fit our culture both on and off the field. This group brings talent, character, and a tremendous work ethic. We can't wait to get them on campus and watch them develop as Bulldogs."

The 2026 recruiting class includes:

Wesley Cohee – RHP – Manchester, Mo. (St. John Vianney HS)

Cohee, a 5-11, 160-pound right-hander, impressed the coaching staff at Truman's fall prospect camp in September. An honor roll student who plans to major in business, Cohee is an avid hunter who works with Special Olympics, TASK STL, and at Play it Again Sports. He plays club baseball for Adidas Athletics.

"I chose Truman State University because of the tight-knit atmosphere, small class size, proximity to various hunting options, and it is within driving distance of my home," Cohee said. "I am looking forward to my involvement with campus life and being an active participant on the Bulldog Baseball Squad."

Davis on Cohee: "Wesley came to our fall prospect camp in September and impressed the coaching staff. We were looking to sign some good young pitching and he fits the bill. We've had a run of very good players from Vianney HS and we expect Wesley to continue that trend. We are looking forward to watching him compete and grow as a Bulldog!"

Travis Hill – MINF – St. Peters, Mo. (Ft. Zumwalt East HS)

Hill, a 5-8, 155-pound middle infielder who throws and bats right-handed, earned First Team All-Conference GAC Central, Second Team All-District Class 5 District 4, and All-State All-Academic Team honors. The business major plays for Premier Baseball Academy and is the son of his high school coach, Russ Hill.

"I chose Truman State University and to be a part of Bulldog Baseball because of the way that hard work and development is valued in the program," Hill said. "The culture on and off the field is something that will be a great fit for me. I am beyond excited to get on campus and get to work. Go Dawgs!"

Davis on Hill: "We've had the opportunity to see Travis several times over the summer, fall, and at our winter and fall camps. He impressed us more and more each time we saw him. He's a true baseball player who loves the game. He's an on-base machine and creates havoc when on the bases with his speed. Defensively he is versatile and athletic enough to play different positions on the infield. We are excited to have Travis join the club and become a Bulldog!"

Lee's Summit coach Jim Mellody on Martin: "Sam is a high-energy, always ready, anything-you-need type of player. Sam is always working, supporting his team, a true team-first player. Sam will be a leader on and off the field. Truman is very fortunate to have Sam as part of their community."

"I am honored to have the opportunity to attend Truman State University," Martin said. "The one-of-kind campus atmosphere, competitive baseball, academic scene—accompanied by great people—and an embracing baseball coach made it an easy decision to attend Truman State University."

Davis on Martin: "Samuel attended our Fall Prospect Camp in September. We hadn't seen him previously. Man did he impress! He showed impressive arm strength with two good secondary pitches that he could command. He competed aggressively even in a showcase setting! After being around him more, he's got a great personality and we feel he's perfect for our program. Samuel is the type of person you want to be around, and we can't wait to watch him play in the Bulldog uniform!"

The Woodlands coach Ron Eastman on Sheeren: "Luke is one of our Leaders in the program. He brings a great energy and focus everyday to practice. Luke is admired by his teammates on and off the field. We are really looking forward to him helping us compete for a Championship in 2026. He has a bright future in front of him and I look forward to following his college career."

"I chose Truman State because it offers the perfect balance of strong academics and a competitive baseball program where I can grow both as a student and an athlete," Sheeren said. "The supportive coaching staff and positive team culture made it immediately feel like a place where I could push myself, contribute meaningfully, and be part of something truly special."

Dom Thompson Signing Photo

Thompson, a 6-3, 155-pound third baseman/shortstop who throws right-handed and bats left-handed, is a two-time district champion who earned Academic All-State Baseball honors twice and Honorable Mention All-Conference. A member of the National Honor Society, Thompson is involved in Future Business Leaders of America, DECA, and Missouri YMCA Youth and Government. He was the only sophomore selected to participate in the Sophomore Pilgrimage to Jefferson City sponsored by the Women's Club of America. Thompson has played piano for 11 years and was a trumpet player in band from grades 5-10. He plans to major in business/law and plays for US Nationals Baseball.

Lee's Summit coach Jim Mellody on Thompson: "I first met Dom in his 8th grade summer, and was immediately impressed and excited for the opportunity to work with Dom. He is not only talented, but also a great person and great student. The Truman community will be a better place with Dom Thompson, I can not wait to see what he does for Truman State."

"It was important for me to find a college with an excellent academic reputation, as well as a great baseball program," Thompson said. "Truman checked both those boxes. I felt extremely welcomed by Coach Davis and the entire baseball team when I first visited the campus. After learning more about the program, I felt confident that playing baseball at Truman would help me grow as an athlete and a person. Also, many alumni have given me excellent feedback about the education they received at Truman, which helped seal the deal for me."

Davis on Thompson: "We were targeting a mobile, athletic third baseman who could potentially play some middle infield in a pinch. We feel like Dominick is the perfect fit. He's athletic, can really hit and shows the potential to hit for some serious power when he finishes growing into his body. He's a guy with a huge upside in our opinion! We look forward to working with Dom and watching him compete for the Bulldogs!"

Jackson Whiddon – C – Shawnee, Kan. (De Soto HS)
Jackson Whiddon Signing Photo

Whiddon, a 6-0, 210-pound right-handed hitting catcher, is a four-year academic letterman and three-year letterman in both football and baseball. He plans to major in physical therapy. Last season, Whiddon posted a .319 batting average with 1 home run, 23 hits, 11 doubles, and 22 RBI while catching 176 innings and throwing out 30% of base stealers. He plays for Cavalier Baseball Club.

De Soto coach Joel Thaemert on Whiddon: "You are getting a young man with great character and the ability to impact teammates in a positive manner. He is a terrific receiver with the ability to control the running game. He shows power to all fields while also limiting his strikeouts. The Bulldogs have a future catcher that is going to make a HUGE impact on your program like he has on ours at De Soto High School! We are looking forward to a terrific spring season with Jackson being one of our top contributors and leaders."

"I chose Truman State because of how welcoming everyone was," Whiddon said. "It felt like I was wanted at Truman and it is the place where I can excel on the field and in the classroom."

Davis on Whiddon: "Jackson came to our Fall Prospect Camp as a sophomore and we knew then that we needed to keep an eye on him. We've watched him play over the last two seasons and we loved him more and more each time. Catching is the toughest position and you have to be an iron man, Jackson caught every game for his club team last summer and competed extremely well! We are excited to have Jackson bring his toughness to the Bulldogs and help us compete for a championship!"

The Bulldogs start their 2026 season against Northeastern State in Talequah, Oklahoma on February 13th.
