KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - Truman State Women's Swimming improved to 2-0 in Great Lakes Valley Conference competition with a decisive home victory over Southwest Baptist, while Men's Soccer and Volleyball each split two conference contests during a lighter week of Bulldog competition. Women's Soccer earned a scoreless draw against Southwest Baptist before falling at Missouri-St. Louis.
Women's Swimming Defeats Southwest Baptist
Truman Women's Swimming won 12 of 14 events and defeated Southwest Baptist 189-73 Friday afternoon inside Pershing Natatorium. The victory moved the Bulldogs to 2-0 in GLVC dual competition for the first time since 2023.
The Bulldogs swept the top two positions in seven individual events. Londyn Moore and Alex Powers finished first and second in the 200-yard freestyle, Powers and Olivia Dempsey led the 100-yard breaststroke and Emerson Hicks and Evelyn Arnold took the top two positions in the 200-yard butterfly.
Charlotte Holcomb edged Moore by one-hundredth of a second in the 50-yard freestyle, winning in 25.44 seconds. Moore later won the 100-yard freestyle ahead of Marianne Dean.
Powers and Hicks finished first and second in the 200-yard breaststroke, while Luca Dessau and Holcomb led the 100-yard butterfly. Truman also placed first and second in the closing 400-yard freestyle relay.
Dean swept the distance freestyle races, winning the 1,000-yard freestyle in 11:11.94 and the 500-yard freestyle in 5:28.16. Arnold added a victory in the 200-yard individual medley.
The Bulldogs also won both women's relays. Evelyn Arnold, Powers, Dessau and Holcomb opened the meet by winning the 400-yard medley relay in 4:06.37. Moore, Maddie Lynch, Dean and Holcomb closed the meet with a victory in the 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:44.66.
Men's Swimming Falls to Southwest Baptist
Southwest Baptist defeated the Truman men 169-93, but the Bulldogs recorded four individual victories.
Orin Meyer swept the distance freestyle events, winning the 1,000-yard freestyle in 10:08.08 and the 500-yard freestyle in 4:53.90.
Jacob Wolf won both backstroke events. He led a one-two Truman finish in the 100-yard backstroke, touching in 53.08 seconds ahead of Cole Smith at 54.48. Wolf later won the 200-yard backstroke in 1:58.48.
Women's Soccer Draws SBU Before Road Loss
Truman 0, Southwest Baptist 0
Mikayla Thomas made four saves as Truman and Southwest Baptist played to a scoreless draw Wednesday afternoon at Stokes Stadium.
Truman held a 10-9 advantage in shots, while both teams placed four attempts on goal. Tessa Paradis, Aubrey Kaupas, Mackenzie Wright and Sam Busch each recorded a shot on goal for the Bulldogs.
Thomas stopped all four shots she faced to complete the shutout. Truman earned all four corner kicks in the match and did not allow Southwest Baptist a corner.
Missouri-St. Louis 4, Truman 0
Missouri-St. Louis scored three times during the opening 16 minutes and defeated Truman 4-0 Saturday in St. Louis.
The Tritons scored at 2:40, 5:21 and 15:58 to build a three-goal halftime advantage. UMSL added its final goal in the 70th minute.
Hanna Ritter placed both of her shots on goal, while Ashley Klaus recorded Truman's other attempt on target. Thomas made one save during the first half, and Siman Loethen stopped two shots after entering for the second half.
Truman completed the week with a 4-4-4 overall record and a 3-3-3 GLVC mark.
Men's Soccer Rallies Past Southwest Baptist
Truman 3, Southwest Baptist 2
Truman scored twice during the final 21 minutes to rally for a 3-2 victory over Southwest Baptist Wednesday afternoon at Stokes Stadium.
Southwest Baptist opened the scoring in the eighth minute before Jacob Panagos tied the match at 37:37. Slayton Spencer assisted Panagos' 10th goal of the season.
The Bearcats regained the lead in the 52nd minute, but Spencer brought the Bulldogs level again with his first goal of the season at 69:38 on a free kick just outside of the box from the right side.
Russell Woods completed the comeback with the first goal of his season at 80:54. Owen Robben made four saves, while the Truman defense added a team save.
Missouri-St. Louis 2, Truman 1
After a scoreless opening half, UMSL scored twice during the final 18 minutes and held off Truman for a 2-1 victory Saturday night.
Brady Freeman broke the tie with a goal at 72:44 and doubled the Tritons' advantage in the 83rd minute. Panagos converted a penalty kick at 86:49 for his GLVC leading 11th goal of the season, but the Bulldogs could not find the equalizer.
Truman finished with a 14-15 deficit in total shots but held a 10-7 advantage during the second half. Panagos led the Bulldogs with five attempts, and Robben made four saves.
The Bulldogs ended the week 4-4-3 overall and 3-3-3 in conference play.
Volleyball Splits GLVC Road Matches
Missouri-St. Louis 3, Truman 1
Missouri-St. Louis defeated Truman 25-22, 19-25, 25-19, 25-21 Friday night in St. Louis.
After dropping the opening set, the Bulldogs answered by winning the second 25-19. Truman recorded 13 kills in the set and used four service aces to even the match.
UMSL regained control by winning the final two sets. The Tritons hit .301 for the match and recorded 10 team blocks while holding Truman to a .172 hitting percentage.
Laci Neece led the Bulldogs with 18 kills, nine digs, three service aces and three block assists. Autumn Erickson added 12 kills and two aces, while Hannah Hosty recorded six kills and hit .333.
Tori Creason finished with 41 assists, 11 digs and three service aces. Addy Janssen led the back row with 29 digs.
Truman 3, McKendree 0
Truman responded Saturday with a 25-15, 25-22, 25-18 sweep of McKendree in Lebanon, Illinois.
The Bulldogs hit .325 with 17 kills during the opening set and finished the match with 45 kills, eight service aces, 69 digs and a .237 hitting percentage. Truman held McKendree to 29 kills and a .145 hitting percentage.
Jessie Julius led the Bulldogs with 16 kills and added 10 digs. Erickson finished with eight kills, hit .429 and contributed three block assists. Neece and Lily Porter recorded nine kills apiece.
Creason distributed 35 assists, collected a match-high 20 digs and recorded three service aces. Janssen added 13 digs, while Avery Poppe finished with 12 digs and two aces.
Truman completed the week with a 7-9 overall record and a 3-3 mark in GLVC play.
