KIRKSVILLE, Mo. — Truman State University Athletics has named Lori Riegler as the new Head Coach of Men's and Women's Swimming, Athletic Director Signe Coombs announced today. Riegler, who becomes the 12th head coach in program history, brings nearly 30 years of coaching experience to Kirksville, including an outstanding recent record at the NCAA Division II level.
Riegler joins Truman State directly from the University of Montevallo, where she served as Head Coach of Men's and Women's Swimming beginning in August 2024. In her debut season, she guided the Montevallo women to a third-place finish at the 2025 Conference Carolinas Championships before leading both programs to even greater heights in 2026, when the men claimed the conference title and the women finished as runners-up. She was named 2026 Conference Carolinas Men's Coach of the Year and produced 14 individual and relay conference champions along with two NCAA qualifiers.
Prior to Montevallo, Riegler held head coaching positions at Columbus Aquatic Club (Columbus, Ga.), Aquastar Swimming (Houston, Texas), and Peoria Area Water Wizards (Peoria, Ill.), developing elite club swimmers including Junior National qualifiers, Scholastic All-Americans, and a USA Swimming National Select Camp qualifier. Her earlier tenure as Director of Competitive Aquatics and Head Coach at Somerset Hills YMCA (Basking Ridge, N.J.) produced one of the most decorated club programs in the country, including a 17-18 Boys National Age Group Record holder, a USA Swimming National Junior Team member who competed for Team USA at the World Junior Championships, and back-to-back USA Swimming Silver Medal Club honors in 2019 and 2020.
A former Division I collegiate swimmer herself, Riegler earned a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science and a Master of Science and Education in Public Health, both from the University of Toledo. She holds an ASCA Level 5 certification and is a USA Swimming Member Coach. Her professional honors include service as an At-Large member of the 2021 USA Swimming House of Delegates and as an ASCA Ambassador.
"With nearly 30 years of coaching experience, Coach Riegler brings a distinguished record of leadership, program development, and student-athlete success," said Coombs. "She has consistently built and sustained competitive programs through strong recruiting, a clear and strategic vision, and a genuine commitment to the overall development of her student-athletes. Her dedication to excellence and comprehensive approach to the student-athlete experience positions her well to build upon our strong foundation and further advance the proud tradition of success within Bulldog swimming."
"I am thrilled to become the next head coach for Truman State," Riegler said. "I feel extremely grateful to Athletic Director Signe Coombs for this incredible opportunity to lead a program with a rich history of success. I can't wait to start working with Coach Doug and the student-athletes as we embark on a new chapter of TSU Swimming."
