Bulldogs Have Great Performances Across Women's Golf, Swimming, and Cross Country

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - Truman State's women's cross country team placed fourth in a 23-team field at the Gans Creek Classic, while the men finished 15th among 21 scoring teams. The women's swimming team opened its season with a 117-87 victory over Quincy, giving head coach Ethan Spencer his first career win. The men's swimming team fell 121-84 to the Hawks, and Women's Golf began its fall season with a seventh-place finish at the Kansas City Cup.

Women's Cross Country Places Fourth at Gans Creek Classic

Truman finished fourth out of 23 teams Friday in the women's black division at the Gans Creek Classic in Columbia, Missouri. The Bulldogs scored 159 points and completed the 6K race with a five-runner total of 1:53:02.80 and an average time of 22:36.56.

Clare Stahr led Truman by placing 24th overall in 22:14.6. Phoebe Canatsey followed in 26th at 22:17.7, while Kate Yates placed 34th in 22:31.1. Sarah Williams crossed the line in 47th at 22:50.1, and Kendra Zeilstra completed the scoring group in 75th at 23:09.3.

Anna Ripley placed 100th in 23:31.4, and Ellie Webb followed in 115th at 23:43.2. Truman finished behind Fort Hays State, Western Kentucky and Cornerstone while placing ahead of 19 teams.

Men's Cross Country Finishes 15th

The Truman men placed 15th out of 21 scoring teams in the 8K race with 418 points. The Bulldogs recorded a five-runner total of 2:15:24 and an average time of 27:04.8.

Nolan Meara led Truman with a 55th-place finish in 26:07.2. Evan Wilke placed 108th in 27:05.5, Jacob Snyder was 112th in 27:10.1 and Andrew Kuehler finished 128th in 27:25.9. Max Hogan completed the scoring group by placing 138th in 27:35.3.

Owen Siever and Noah Thompson served as Truman's sixth and seventh runners, finishing in 27:47.5 and 28:16.5, respectively.

Women's Swimming Defeats Quincy in Season Opener

The Truman women opened their season Saturday with a 117-87 victory over Quincy inside the Pershing Natatorium. The win was the first of Ethan Spencer's career as Truman State's head swimming coach.

The Bulldogs won seven of the 11 women's events, including both relays. Maddie Lynch, Alex Powers, Luca Dessau and Layla Walker opened the meet by winning the 200-yard medley relay in 1:51.30. Londyn Moore, Walker, Lynch and Charlotte Holcomb later won the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:41.65.

Dessau earned two individual victories, winning the 200-yard freestyle in 2:01.12 and the 100-yard butterfly in 59.45. Holcomb won the 50-yard freestyle in 25.31, Evelyn Arnold captured the 200-yard individual medley in 2:17.01 and Marianne Dean won the 500-yard freestyle in 5:30.86.

Truman used its depth throughout the meet, placing at least two swimmers among the top four in eight of the nine individual events.

Men's Swimming Falls to Quincy

Quincy defeated the Truman men 121-84 in the Bulldogs' season opener.

Truman collected four individual victories. Dennis Bobiv won the 50-yard freestyle in 21.92, Will Wright captured the 200-yard individual medley in 2:00.89 and Nick Richter won the 100-yard freestyle in 48.97. Orin Meyer added a victory in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:56.79 after placing second in the 1,000-yard freestyle.

The Bulldogs narrowly missed a win in the final event. Wright, Richter, Cole Smith and Bobiv finished the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:27.29, only one-tenth of a second behind Quincy.

Women's Golf Opens Season at Kansas City Cup

Truman placed seventh out of eight teams at the Kansas City Cup, played Sept. 20-22 at Paradise Pointe Golf Complex in Smithville, Missouri.

Lauren Prys led the Bulldogs by tying for 28th at 38-over par. Karmen Hayslett and Madalyn Breckenridge tied for 35th at 46-over, while Lily Seydel finished 39th at 49-over. DeLainie Hedger tied for 42nd at 55-over.

The tournament marked Truman's first competition of the fall season.

Coming Up for the Bulldogs

Men's and Women's Swimming return to the Pershing Natatorium on Friday, Oct. 2, to host Southwest Baptist. The GLVC dual begins at 1 p.m. Women's Swimming Schedule | Men's Swimming Schedule
